JUDGE SCORING GUIDELINES
Overall Judging Philosophy
This is a jam-style, community-focused event. Judges should score based on overall performance, not individual tricks. Consistency, style, and how a skater uses the park matter more than difficulty alone.
There is no required trick list.
Primary Scoring Criteria
Judges should consider the following equally:
Style & Flow
Smoothness, speed, confidence, and how naturally tricks link together.Control & Consistency
Landing tricks cleanly, maintaining balance, and recovering well from mistakes.Creativity & Trick Selection
Originality, variety, and appropriate difficulty for the division.Use of Park Features
Effective and intentional use of available obstacles and terrain.Overall Impression
The skater’s presence, energy, and performance throughout the jam.Age & Division Context
Judges should evaluate skaters relative to their division, not across divisions.
Effort, progression, and control should be weighted appropriately for age and experience level.Falls & Bails
Falls are part of skateboarding. A single fall should not significantly impact a score unless it disrupts the overall run or shows lack of control.
Best Trick
Best Trick is judged separately and should focus on:
Difficulty
Execution
Creativity
Only landed tricks count.
Judge Conduct
Remain neutral and consistent
Do not coach or signal participants during scoring
Avoid scoring skaters with personal conflicts of interest
All judging decisions are final
Scoring Method
Judges observe the entire jam, then briefly confer to determine placements.
Process:
Judges discuss standout performances
Consensus is reached on podium placements
Focus is on overall impression, not exact scoring
Guidelines:
Discussion should remain brief and respectful
Judges should clearly articulate reasoning
Event lead or head judge facilitates if needed
Final Notes
Judges are encouraged to trust their instincts and keep the event fair, fun, and flowing. This is a celebration of skateboarding and community.
